WESTBROOK – Aurella M. Ouellette Coulombe, 84, of Mayfield Drive, formerly of Washington Avenue, Portland, died Friday, March 9, at Springbrook Nursing Facility in Westbrook.
She was born on May 28, 1922, in Fort Kent, the tenth of 12 children, daughter of Donat and Alice Roy Ouellette. She attended Fort Kent schools and married Lucien P. Coulombe in East Hartford, Conn., on Nov. 28, 1942.
As a young woman, Aurella came to the greater Portland area and worked for several prominent families as a domestic. She worked for Douglass Aircraft in Connecticut, Giant Store, Wellwood and retired from CVS Pharmacy in 1995.
Her many hobbies included gardening, canning foods, decorating cakes and solving newspaper puzzles. She was an accomplished seamstress and avid crocheter. The best word to describe Aurella was “Family.” She was all about her family and interested in the many and varied activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Parish in Portland for 45 years and most recently a communicant of St. Anthony’s Parish in Westbrook.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lucien P. Coulombe, in 1980; and a son, Lloyd Coulombe in 1943.
She is survived by a sister, Priscilla Beaulieu of New Britain, Conn.; children, Deanna R. Barnes and husband, George V., Lester A. Coulombe and wife, Mary, Sharon E. Fuller and husband, Mark, D. Bruce Coulombe and wife, Alice, Catherine A. Hill and husband, Peter, B. James Coulombe and wife, Barbara, with whom she made her home; grandchildren, George P. Barnes, Deborah L. Gilman and husband, Timothy, Amy D. Hodges and husband, Donald, Heidi B. Billings and husband, Scott, Joshua B. Coulombe and wife, Marcie, Katrine R. Stevens and husband, Todd, Larissa M. Allen, Christian M. Fuller and fiancée, Karen, Michelle N. Fuller and fiancé, Pete, Katharine F. Waite, Chase A. and Marc S. Hill, Andrew J. and Reid L. Coulombe; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Corey and Adam Gilman, Donovan and Morgan Hodges, Billy and Matthew Billings, and Tristan and Sierra Stevens; and many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Dorothy LaMarre.
