LEWISTON – In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, Advocates for Children is inviting parents and children to a special group event at the Parent Resource Center from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 26. Activities will focus on safety.

This year’s theme is “Turning Choices into Change Making a Difference for Children.”

Representatives from the Lewiston Police Department and the Maine State Police will interact with children, helping them with crafts and reading stories on safety. A piece from a large blue ribbon puzzle will be presented to the State Police and brought to Augusta later in the day for a press conference with Gov. John Baldacci.

Parents will learn the story behind the blue ribbon, along with stress management tips and other helpful parenting hints. Children will color and make a pinwheel to “plant” in their home in support of all children.

Advocates for Children is a recipient of funding from United Way, Lewiston Community Development Block Grant, Auburn Community Development Block Grant and the Department of Health and Human Services.
