Regarding Cal Thomas’ defense of George Allen in his March 6 column – whose lies are we talking about?
Isn’t it quite possible that George Allen lost his Senate seat, not because of lies fostered by the Democratic Party, but because of two totally different issues?
First, his use of a racially pejorative term during a campaign appearance. (He referred to someone in the audience as “Macaca.”)
Second, his totally botched explanation for why he had kept his Jewish ancestry hidden from public view. It was not the fact of his ancestry that did him in, it was his denial of it that contributed to his defeat.
Cal Thomas, that defender of freedom and righteousness, probably can’t, to this very day, understand why people voted the way they did last November.
