Auburn – Charles W. Spencer Jr., age 84, of 251 Meadowview Park, Lewiston, died Monday at Clover Health Care Facility after a short illness with his family at his side.
Born in Lewiston on Jan. 8, 1923, the son of Charles W. Sr. and Myra (Sawyer) Spencer. He was educated in Lewiston, graduating from Lewiston High School.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. On July 26, 1947, he married the former Irene Jones. Prior to his retirement, he worked for many years as a loomfixer, at the former W.S. Libby Mill.
He enjoyed fishing, playing poker, summer league bowling, Saturday mornings at Edwards Restaurant, summers at Keoka Campgrounds, in South Waterford, and wintered for 12 years at Vero Beach, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, of Lewiston; five sons, Thomas Harrison and his wife, Eileen, of Mechanic Falls, Alan Spencer of Lewiston, James Spencer and his companion, Angela Manson, of Sabattus, Peter Spencer and his companion, Laurie Stevens, of Auburn, and Charles Spencer III and his companion, Michelle Spencer, of Lewiston; three daughters, Patricia Clayton and her husband, Kenneth, of Cartersville, Ga., Susan Parlin and her husband, Richard, of Greene, and Nancy Turner and her husband, Thomas, of Lewiston; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Clinton Spencer; and two sisters, Leah Wright and Virginia Spencer.
