Durham – Emerson E. Osgood, 85, of Royalsborough Road in Durham, died Monday, March 12, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Durham, on Nov. 5, 1921, the son of Arthur W. and Alice G. McKinney Osgood Sr. On March 8, 1946, he married the former Evelyn L. Gould in Freeport.
He ran the family dairy farm for many years, later working for several Freeport Shoe Companies, and retiring from L.L. Bean in 1984 as a hand sewer. after his retirement he was a hand sewer in the showroom, which he greatly enjoyed.
He was a member of the Durham Congregational Church, in Durham, and the Acacia Masonic Lodge 121, of Durham. Among his interests were hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp in Rangeley. He also loved woodworking in his shop and making cabinets. He loved to cook. He loved spending time with his family, and was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn, of Durham; his four sons, Glenn L. and his wife, Louise, of Durham, Arthur E. and his wife, Sharon, of Baldwin, David A. and his wife, Leah, of Durham, and Linwood L. and his wife, Nancy, of West Gardiner; he is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Aliceann Condon, of Freeport.
He was predeceased by his parents,; two brothers, Clayton and Arthur Jr.; a sister and a brother in-law, Evelyn and Anthony Dogan.
