Bridgton – Herbert “Gordon” Ellis, 86, of Bridgton and formerly of Canton, died March 11, in Bridgton.
He was born in Canton, on Feb. 1, 1921, the son of Ansel & Winifred (Bicknell) Ellis, and graduated in 1941, at which time he joined the U.S. Army serving in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
He moved to Conn., and started working in the shoe business at Murray Shoe, and later returned to Maine and started his own shoe business with his wife, Beatrice. He was a member of the V.F.W., enjoyed salt-water fishing, (making his own boat), enjoyed horse racing and owned his own horse.
He is survived by one son, Gordon T. Ellis, of Scarborough; stepson, Gerald Pepin, of West Paris; stepdaughters, Barbara Pepin and Elaine Pepin, both of West Paris; one brother, Albert Ellis, of Canton; and one sister, Geraldine Parlin, of Canton.
He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice (Richards) Ellis; and a sister, Faye Lord.
