AUBURN – Park Avenue residents and neighbors will get to hear the preliminary results of a traffic study and analysis next week.

The study, which began last year, looks at traffic patterns on the road from Court Street to Mount Auburn Avenue.

Neighbors have complained the route is becoming a favorite shortcut for Poland and Minot residents going to the Mount Auburn Avenue Wal-Mart and the Auburn Mall.

Engineers presented preliminary findings to neighbors in June. According to the May 2006 tests, daily traffic on Park Avenue peaks between 3 and 5 p.m., with up to 600 vehicles per hour driving there. Park Avenue traffic increased from about 5,500 daily trips in 2003 to about 6,250 daily trips in May.

Engineers continued testing in September, after the new Park Avenue Elementary school opened.

The draft plan should include traffic recommendations, as well as suggestions for a pedestrian walking path along the street.
