FRYEBURG – Robert F. Austin Jr., 86, died on Monday March 12, at the Fryeburg Health and Residential Center. He was a resident of Prospect Ave in Rumford.

Born in Rumford, on Aug. 25, 1920, he was a son of Robert and Winifred (Arsenault) Austin Sr. He was a graduate of Stephens High School, in Rumford, with the class of 1938.

He served in the US Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He owned and operated Bob’s Exxon, in Rumford until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of the Le Paresseux Snowshoe Club, Rumford, Lodge 862, BPOE, Napoleon Ouellette Post, 24, American Legion, and Fr. Ambrose J. Barry Council, 2091 K of C. He was also a communicant of St. Athanasius and St John Church.

He was married in Rumford, on June 12, 1946, to Eleanor White who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include a son, James Austin, of Oquossoc; a brother, Richard Austin, of Rumford; and a granddaughter, Taryn Austin, of Rhode Island.
