Special service

NEWRY – The Sunday River Christian Ministry will conduct a special service in the “Upper Room” of the green River House, South Ridge base lodge area at Sunday River ski resort on Sunday, March 18, at 10:30 a.m.

Featured musical artist and speaker will be Mark Finks, leader of the State Street Traditional Jazz Band of Portland. Although Finks is a native of Maine, he has played and recorded with the veteran musicians from New Orleans, La., since he was a young man. Finks is not only an accomplished banjo player, but is also a street evangelist.

Money donated at the service will go to Habitat for Humanity, particularly for its efforts in New Orleans. All ages are welcome.

Boiled dinner

NORWAY – A classic New England boiled dinner will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Second Congregational Church, 205 Main St. The public is invited to join the congregation for a St. Patrick’s Day dinner and fellowship.

The cost will be $7.50 for adults and $3.50 for children under age 10. The menu will include corned beef, cabbage, onions, beets, potatoes, carrots, homemade rolls, homemade pies, coffee and juice. For more information, call the church office at 743-2290 between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday.

Battle of Bands

HARRISON – A Battle of the Bands will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Ronald G. St. John Post 9328, VFW, Route 35, for teens only.

Everyone is invited; however, it is asked that people register in advance with Cinda Roy at cindasmithroy@yahoo.com or Libby Graffam at graffame@wmhcc.org. Admission is free.

It is asked that all bands that participate create an anti-drug song with clean/clear lyrics. The winner will receive $100 and the song will be promoted on the public TV channel. The runners-up will receive prizes.

Vendors are being sought that offer services to adolescents who may be experimenting with alcohol and drugs, as well as other teen services. Adults are also needed to supervise this event.

Rec sign-ups

OTISFIELD – Sign-ups are under way for children age 5 to 12 for T-Ball, Girls Farm, Rookie, Girls Little League, Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. The cost is $25 for one child, $40 for two, $50 for three or more children and $40 for Babe Ruth.

Sign-up forms are available at Otisfield Community School on Powhattan Road and in the town office on Route 121. There is always a need for coaches for every level of baseball/softball.

Members needed

PARIS – The Paris Public Library has an opening on its board of trustees. Any interested resident of Paris, at least age 18, is invited to submit their name for consideration.

The board meets the third Thursday of each month and is responsible for the library and its policies. Previous applicants are encouraged to reapply.

Kindergarten

PARIS – Registration and screening for next year’s kindergarten class at Paris Elementary School will be held on Tuesday, May 22. Children who will be 5 on or before Oct. 15 are eligible to attend kindergarten.

Parents are encouraged to contact the Paris Elementary School office immediately to set an appointment time. Appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

On May 22 parents must present a copy of the child’s birth certificate, a copy of the immunization record and a copy of the child’s most recent physical exam. For more information and to schedule an appointment, call Paris Elementary School at 743-7802.
