Norway – Virginia Stickney, 79, of Sumner, formerly of Mexico, died early Wednesday, March 14, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.
She was born in Farmington on July 26, 1927, a daughter of Frank and Louise (Smith) Ledrette. She received her education in local schools and graduated from Farmington High School in 1946. On Dec. 1, 1946, she married Guy Stickney Sr. in Farmington. He died on Feb. 2, 1987.
She was employed at Diamond National for several years, and for 17 years was a bookkeeper at Turner Motor Sales and later for Glenn Tompkins. She was a long time member of the Voting Registration Board in Mexico, and a supporter of the Republican Party. She enjoyed old movies, music, and reading biographies, as well as newspapers from all over, until her eyesight began to fail.
She will be remembered as being a yard sale and flea market “queen” and was a member of the Rebekah’s, Pythian Sisters, and the American Legion Auxiliary as well as the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by a son, Guy Stickney, Jr. and his wife Louise of Bridgton; foster children, Laurel Belanger and Leonard Belanger of Sumner, Barbara and Henry Dyke of Lebanon, and Arthur Chappelle of Rumford; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; She was predeceased by a sister, Irene.
