Farmington – Myrtle (Hinkley) Walli, 90, of Phillips, daughter of the late Leon and Rosa Hinkley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, March 14, with her family by her side after complications due to Alzheimer’s.

She was born on Oct. 20, 1916, one of four children. The family lived on a farm where her father died in a tragic fire. Prior to that, it was from there that they had to walk miles to school, and to town to go to movies with friends.

On June 29, 1940, Myrtle and Allen Walli of Temple were united in marriage. After a short time residing in Temple and Strong, they made their home in Phillips for 42 years. Among the homes they lived in, the last was sold in 1982 after Allen’s death to make room for Shadagee Elderly Housing. She kept a parcel of land overlooking the complex, and purchased a modular home, where she lived until illness took her to Orchard Park Living Center for four years.

She started working at a very young age. She was a cook at Camp Kawahnee Boys Camp in Weld for several summers, and worked at the Diamond Match Mill in Phillips which burned. She later was employed at Forster Manufacturing, where she worked for 30 years until her retirement in 1982.

Among her favorite pastimes were cooking and trying many different recipes. Many people enjoyed her delicious yeast rolls and big glazed donuts. She loved to walk “the loop” with family members, which was leaving from home and up around town and back. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, word-finds, crocheting, and watching nightly game shows. She had her own three-digit numbers playing the lottery, and occasionally won with the numbers. She enjoyed having her family for gatherings, insisting that she do most of the cooking.

She is survived by three daughters, Rosalynne Walli, Sandra Curtis, and Donna Beedy, all of Avon; one grandson, Randy Walli; four granddaughters, Tami, Kelly, Kim, and Tonya; 10 great-grandchildren, Colby, Casey, Kayla, Kirk, Nathan, Chris, Lucas, Ty, Elsa and Emma; She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years; two sisters, Dorothy Sanders and Madeline Campbell; one brother, Clayton Hinkley; a niece, Diane Sanders; and a son-in-law, Greg Curtis; She also lost her dog, “Buffy.”
