LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen will discuss holding a referendum for the town meeting on Monday as one of their agenda items.

The board will review the time frame for the first referendum on municipal articles Tuesday, June 12, and discuss the pros and cons of voting by Australian ballot at the polls, Town Manager Martin Puckett said.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, at the town office.

With estimated state revenue sharing figures still not released to the town, board Chairwoman Julie Deschesnes is wondering whether the time frame leading up to the vote will work.

Someone also contacted town officials questioning why the board was having a referendum vote when a majority of residents voted a few years ago in favor of keeping the traditional town meeting, Puckett said.

The time frame leading to the vote would be an informational meeting on the proposed 2007-08 budget on Monday, April 16. Selectmen will then need to finalize the proposed budget by April 20 to post the notice of a public hearing by Monday, April 23, and holding the hearing Monday, April 30, Putnam said.

The town meeting warrant would then be posted on Thursday, May 10, with absentee ballots available Friday, May 11.

Nomination papers for the election of town and school officials will be available Friday, March 16, at the town office, Puckett said.

Positions open are selectmen’s terms currently held by Bill Demaray, a three-year term, and Michael Collins, a two-year term.

SAD 36 directors’ positions available will be three three-year terms held by incumbents Lori Morris, Elaine Smith and Ann Souther, he said.
