When the Androscoggin County Commission refuses to allow the sheriff to appoint a chief deputy unless that person takes a salary cut, something is wrong with the process.

When the county commission refuses to allow the position of patrol deputy to be filled, although it was placed in the budget, I have to ask, why?

The newly elected sheriff is attempting to provide much needed coverage for the county.

Poland is one town in the county that contracts for police coverage with the sheriff’s department, for both patrol and dispatching. The quality of this service is excellent. Capt. Ray Lafrance and his patrol deputies carry out their duties in a professional manner.

Possibly the county commission should exhibit the same qualities.
