AUGUSTA – A Wilton man with a long record of driving violations remained in Kennebec County Jail on Saturday, held on $100,000 cash bail or $250,000 real estate surety after an appearance Friday in Augusta District Court
Walter G. Noble, 64, who has an extensive history of shunning driving laws, was arrested by Winthrop police on Thursday while driving on Main Street in that town.
Noble was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, operating with habitual offender status and violating bail conditions.
Noble, who has 48 convictions for driving-related violations since 1966 and has not been eligible for a driver’s license since 1968, was stopped twice in Jay late last year and was charged with operating after suspension.
On Tuesday, he was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury in connection with Jay police charges in November and December, on two counts of operating after revocation, violating condition of release and failure to give correct name.
Noble served time from March 2001 to November 2005 at the Bolduc Correction Facility in Warren after convictions for being a habitual offender and operating under the influence, according to the Maine Department of Corrections.
