Potvin graduated from Bowdoin College in 1977 and began a career in real estate with two area realtors, Bert Pontbriand and Louis Guilmette. He became owner and president of Century 21 Guilmette Realty in 1981, and co-owner and treasurer of Coldwell Banker Millett-Potvin Realty in 1991.
