Oxford – Ronald Hiram Whitten, 74, of Oxford, died on Sunday, March 18, at his residence in Oxford.

He was born in Portland, on Aug. 28, 1932, the son of Leroy H. and Arline M.(Card) Whitten.

He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War on the USS Lake Chamberlain. He was an Eagle Scout. He worked for many years in construction for various unions.

He married the former Jean Mae Crossman, who predeceased him.

He belonged to the Gray Eagles Club, American Legion of Mechanic Falls, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Portland. He loved animals and liked going to the hunting camp with the boys.

He is survived by two nephews, Chris Whitten, of Steep Falls, and Mike Whitten, of Gorham; two great-nephews, Cody and Lawrence Whitten, of Steep Falls; and very close friends and neighbors, Jimmie and Dottie Ryan, and the Pompeo family.
