BUCKFIELD – Rosita Gagne of the Board of Directors for the Buckfield Village Corp. asked selectmen Tuesday to include an article on the June warrant requesting the town take over the treasury and other administrative duties of the corporation.

“If you will not recommend this request, we don’t want it on the warrant,” she said.

Skip Stanley wanted to know how much time the town manager would spend to be involved in the corporation business, which operates the drinking water distribution system in the village.

“We don’t want to overload him and take away his time from the town’s business. Would you be happy if we went with saying no recommendation on the article?” he asked. Gagne agreed the board could go with that.

A workshop was set for April 10 at the recommendation of Town Manager Glen Holmes, for the corporation and the selectmen to discuss what duties this might entail and if it should go on the warrant.

In other matters, selectmen established four new committees in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan adopted by the town in 2006. They are:

• Historical Preservation Commission to foster awareness of the importance of historic resources, identify and protect historic structures and sites.

• Conservation Committee to build awareness of natural resources and potential problems, and protection of these resources.

• Ordinance Development Committee to draft a land use code including subdivision and site review standards.

• Economic Development Committee to advise officials regarding economic issues in town.

Each will have three members.

Holmes discussed using sand and salt reserve money, and insurance money from the burned storage building for a canvass sand facility. Stanley wanted Holmes to get prices on wooden structures, and he said he would.

Route 117 construction work will entail a detour on Roundabout Road for about five days in the summer.

Town voting was changed from June 19 to June 12. Town meeting remains June 20.
