JAY – About 40 firefighters from three departments responded Saturday to a fire at a mobile home at 293 Morse Hill Road, off Route 17, and were able to contain the fire to a bathroom.
Jay firefighters had just returned to the North Jay fire station from a car fire on Pleasant Drive and were able to arrive at the North Jay scene in about 90 seconds, Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Jim Shink said.
Scott and Goldie Richards, who were home at the time, are staying with relatives until the damage is repaired, he said.
Goldie Richards noticed that the light was on in the bathroom went down the hall to check it out when she saw that it was on fire and called 911, Shink said.
The Richards and their dog were able to get out of the home.
No one was injured, Shink said.
When firefighters arrived smoke was showing and firefighters could see flames around the light when they went into the bathroom, he said. The fire was out within 10 minutes, he said.
Damage was to the bathroom with minimum damage to the ceiling in the master bedroom, he said.
A state fire investigator was called in to determine the cause, which is still under investigation, Shink said.
It is not suspicious, he said; it is a possible electrical fire.
