MEXICO – It’s deja vu all over again for Town Manager John Madigan.

Selectmen from Mexico and Dixfield voted unanimously Monday night to share Madigan while Dixfield searches for a new town manager.

Dixfield Town Manager Jeff Jacobson leaves his position Friday for a job in his home state of Minnesota after serving here for about 14 months. Madigan said Tuesday that he plans to meet with Jacobson to review the town’s 2007-2008 municipal budget process prior to Jacobson leaving.

Madigan begins duties for both towns on Monday and is expected to be in the shared position for about two months.

The deadline for applications for Dixfield town manager is March 30.

Madigan will work full Mondays in Dixfield, and full Thursdays in Mexico. He will also work mornings in Mexico and afternoons in Dixfield on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The towns shared a similar arrangement for seven months from June 2005 to January 2006 when Jacobson was hired full time.

Each town will pay half of Madigan’s salary, prorated on $31,000 from each town during his service. Each town will also pay half of his medical insurance.

Madigan’s usual salary in Mexico is $53,560 annually. Jacobson’s annual salary is $42,000.

He said he will likely make about $200 more a week while he is serving both towns.

The two jobs will likely require many more night meetings during the annual budget building process than at other times of the year.

To accommodate both towns and their budget development meetings, as well as each town’s regular selectmen’s meetings, the next Dixfield selectmen’s meeting has been set for 5 p.m. Monday, March 26.

Madigan said he will be available to residents of both towns by telephone regardless of the days he is scheduled to be in each office.
