BATAVIA, N.Y. – Mary M. MacFarlane, 84, died March 11, at the Gennesse Nursing Home.
Born in Scottsville, Nova Scotia, Canada, on Dec. 13, 1922, she was the daughter of John H. and Rose MacFarlane.
She graduated from Stephens High School with the Class of 1941.
She attended the Bridgeport School of Nursing in Bridgeport, Conn., receiving her RN designation. She then attended New York University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
She held many nursing positions throughout her career, including head night supervisor of nursing at Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City.
She also worked for Rumford Community Hospital, developing the “nurse’s aid” program and as a nursing instructor. She then went to the VA to teach nursing, retiring in 1995 from the VA Hospital in Batavia, N.Y.
She leaves behind two brothers, John H.A. MacFarlane and his wife, June, of New Jersey, and Francis MacFarlane of Tennessee; and two sisters, Catherine Prather and her husband, Bill, of Connecticut and Jessie Shea and her husband, John, of Rumford.
