WILTON – More than 10,000 people are expected to tour the Pine Tree State Sportsman and Gun Show this weekend at the Bob Nichols Expo Center on Weld Street.
The event will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the site of the former Bass Shoe Factory.
With more vendors and many of the most popular shows returning, organizers have planned an event that includes more than 200 booths and spreads out over 50,000 square feet.
This third year of the show, sponsored by the Nichols Group, features the Benoit Brothers, who have written books and made videos about shooting heavy bucks, said Cassius Clark, a Nichols employee.
Another popular attraction, he said, is Bwana Jim’s wildlife show, which features snakes, armadillos, alligators and other animals not often seen around here.
Vendors are expected from across Maine, New York and Canada, including hunting guides, taxidermists and hunting and fishing camp representatives. Ax throwing and a wood carver along with new attractions will be offered. An indoor trout pond and BB gun shooting will be offered for younger visitors.
Programs featuring local guides and hunters will be repeated over the three days. Master Maine Guide Roger Lambert will present a program on moose calling and attraction strategies; Lee Schanz of Schanz Guide Service will offer a program on hunting Maine’s big bucks. Peter Wade offers a program on versatile hunting dogs, and programs on fishing also will be held.
Admission is $6 with children under 10 free. For more information, visit www.pinetreesportsmanshow.com
