STRATTON – The book, “Sam O. White, Alaskan,” has been printed and is available. White was born and raised on Eustis Ridge and was the first bush pilot/game warden in the world.
In 2005, Jim Reardon, aviation author from Alaska, contacted Bob Schipper of Stratton because he was writing a book about White and needed information on him.
Reardon said, “I want to bring Sam alive to the reader, and want the reader to realize what a pioneer he was – both as a game warden and as a pilot. Sam was almost bigger that life, and I want to show that.”
Some years ago, Julia and Harland White, Sam’s son and daughter-in-law, donated an extensive display of memorabilia, personal papers and albums relating to many facets of White’s life to the Dead River Area Historical Society.
Reardon spent four days at the museum going over the exhibit. He told Schipper, “There are many items in that collection that they don’t have in Alaska.”
