AIDS project

PORTLAND – This spring, Frannie Peabody Center, in conjunction with the Names Project, will coordinate Stitching the Fabric of Community, a project dedicated to the creation of panels for the AIDS Memorial Quilt, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 26.

Since its beginning in 1987, the quilt has been used to name and commemorate the legacy of those whose lives were shortened by AIDS. The quilt has also been a tool to promote community education and awareness surrounding HIV/AIDS issues.

The center will host an informational kick-off event at its office, open to the public. The center encourages positive and negative community members to join and create traditional panels for loved ones who have been lost to AIDS, as well as non-traditional panels that bring messages of hope and compassion.

Volunteers are needed to bring their personal skills, creativity, extra quilting supplies and support to the project. Panel making work days are scheduled for Saturdays, April 14 and May 5. More information will be available at the kick-off event. For more information, e-mail [email protected] or call 774-6877, ext. 128.
