Tavares, Fla. – Joseph Albert Obie, 78, of Tavares, Fla., passed away Friday, March 16, at his home.
He was born in Auburn on Jan. 29, 1929, the son of Thomas and Annie Mercier Obie. He was educated in local schools and served his country in the U.S. Army.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier, in Lewiston. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, New Auburn Social Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the American Legion, and he was also an avid billiard player.
He is survived by a daughter, Tammy Obie, of Colorado; his lifelong love, Jacqueline Obie, of Lewiston; his children, not by blood but by love, Sue Belanger, of Maryland, Diane Dubois and husband, Richard, of Lewiston, Therese St. Pierre and husband, Denis, of Lewiston, Denise Chow and husband, Kenneth, of Dixfield, and Marc Belanger and wife, Deborah, of Sabattus; four sisters, Helen Keith, of Tavares, Fla., Connie Roberge, of Lewiston, Antoinette Lessard, of Cape Elizabeth, Irene Deprez and husband, Victor, of Mechanic Falls; a brother, Roger Obie, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Robert, maurice, Roland, Wifred, Norman, Arthur and Bertrand; and a sister, baby Irene.
