AUGUSTA – Jean Paul LeBrun Sr., 82, of Mark Street, Lewiston, died at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta on March 22, where he was a resident for nearly two years.

He was born in Auburn on Nov. 4, 1924, the son of Edmond LeBrun and Alice Picard. He attended the Auburn school system until the age of 15 when he joined the U.S. Army on May 20, 1940. He was in the 103rd Infantry Division and served in the South Pacific. He volunteered as a “Merrill’s Marauder” and served in the India-Burma Campaign. He was very proud to have served his country, receiving the Asian-Pacific Theatre ribbon, two Bronze Service Stars, Purple Heart, American Defense Service Ribbon, Combat infantryman Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, and Good Conduct Medal awards.

He was a member of the VFW and DAV and he and his wife, Louise, attended many Merrill’s Marauder reunions.

He worked for years as a heavy equipment mechanic and owned and operated a Phillips 66 business in Auburn until retiring due to illness.

He married the former Louise A. Girouard of Lewiston on July 2, 1945. She passed away Aug. 12, 2000.

He enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his wife and son, Kenny, who passed away in March, 2004. J.P. was very proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. He also had a special place in his heart for his two great-grandsons. He will be sadly missed by all who cared for him and his friends at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta.

He is survived by his son, Jean “Butch” LeBrun Jr. and his wife, Karen; his daughter, LuAnn St. Pierre and her husband, Paul; five great-grandchildren, Christine LeBrun, Christopher LeBrun, Jason St. Pierre and his wife, Amy, April Caron and her husband, Larry, and Michael St. Pierre. He will also be missed by his great-grandsons, Hunter Frechette and Drake St. Pierre; one brother, Lucien “Chet” LeBrun and his wife, Sylvia; a sister, Lucienne Duquette and her husband, Albert; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother and father.
