I was thinking, one morning, about how the war in Iraq is like an old car. You drive it for a long time and eventually it starts getting expensive to fix – a hose springs a leak, so you spend a few bucks to fix that. Then the speedometer quits, more bucks to fix that. Then, maybe, the alternator dies, or the transmission won’t work… and on and on.
At some point, you realize that you are putting more into that car than it is worth, and face the decision to let it go.
It is the same with Iraq.
Now, personally, I don’t think this country should have gotten involved in that train wreck to begin with, but since it did – thank you, Mr. Bush – shouldn’t our country’s leaders have the common sense to cut losses and move on?
Why not trust that the Iraqi people have the intelligence and creativity to work things out for themselves? That’s what happened here in 1776.
Well, I have got to get back to my old car. It needs a new head – just like America.
