GREENE – A 20-year-old Leeds man was killed here Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle head-on crash.
Matthew Rodrigue was pronounced dead at the scene of the Meadowhill Road wreck, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The driver of the other vehicle, Kimberly Long, 39, of Greene, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment of possible broken bones. McCausland said Long was wearing a seat belt and her vehicle’s air bags deployed upon impact.
The hospital had no information regarding her condition Sunday night.
Maine State Police Trooper Michael Chavez responded to the 12:45 p.m. accident.
“There is no explanation at the moment, but it appears that Rodrigue crossed the center line of the road and hit Long head-on. He had just crested a small hill, but they were on a straight stretch of roadway,” McCausland quoted Chavez as saying.
Rodrigue, driving a 1994 Honda Civic, was southbound on Meadowhill Road, while Long, driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer, was headed north.
McCausland said Rodrigue was not wearing a seat belt.
