RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – Scholarships that will be available to two high school seniors who play soccer in the Rapid City area will be awarded in memory of former University of Connecticut goalie Brian Hall.

Hall, originally from Rapid City, was one of the climbers lost on Mount Hood, Ore., in December. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to one boy and one girl this spring.

Susan Roth, a high school friend of Hall and scholarship committee member, said Hall did a lot of community service, including working with Habitat for Humanity.

“Brian always gave more than he received,” she said.

Hall, 37, played basketball and soccer at UConn, where he graduated in 1991 with a business administration degree.

Hall moved to Dallas, played professional soccer for the Dallas Rockets and then worked as a personal trainer and girls soccer coach.
