AUBURN – Results from the autopsy of an 8-month-old Auburn baby who died Saturday were not being released Sunday night and are not expected to be made public until later this week.
Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, confirmed that the autopsy was conducted Sunday at the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta, but declined to reveal any information about the cause of death.
“Investigators will sit down with the Attorney General’s Office Monday or Tuesday to discuss the case before any details are released,” McCausland said Sunday.
Emily-Leigh Cole, daughter of Libby St. Pierre, 32, of Auburn, and Michael Cole, 26, of Lewiston, died at Maine Medical Center in Portland after suffering injuries while under the care of her mother’s boyfriend, Todd Gamache, 23, Thursday night.
The baby was put on life support Thursday night after an incident in which police and an ambulance were called to an apartment at 113 Broad St. for an unresponsive baby. According to police records, St. Pierre and Gamache live in the apartment together.
Gamache was arrested early Friday morning on warrants unrelated to the injured baby. He had not been charged in connection with the death of Cole as of Sunday night.
Androscoggin County Jail records show that Gamache was released Saturday after posting a $1,790 bail.
