AUBURN – The AuburnLewiston YMCA pre-kindergarten class, ages 4 and 5, had a visit from Eugene Edgerson of the Harlem Globetrotters on March 21. Edgerson was in the area scoping out the local basketball talent before their Thursday, March 29, tilt at the Colisee against the New York Nationals.
Being a former YMCA Biddy basketball player, Edgerson knew he would find a great group of ballplayers at the YMCA.
Entering his fourth season with the Globetrotters, Edgerson, 6 feet-7 inches, was part of a December tour of the Middle East, visiting 12 U.S. military bases in five countries, including Iraq.
In December 2003, he was one of four players to announce the team’s new character education program, “CHEER for Character.” The interactive program focuses on the character traits of cooperation, healthy mind and body, effort, enthusiasm and responsibility.
