AUBURN – The death of an 8-month-old girl remains under investigation nearly four days after she was hospitalized for apparent injuries.

Police said that Emily-Leigh Cole was with her mother’s boyfriend, Todd Gamache, 23, at her Broad Street home before she was rushed to the hospital. She died Saturday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

A spokesman at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta said an autopsy on the baby was not completed as of 4 p.m. Monday. No charges had been filed in connection with the death at that time.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Maine police investigators plan to meet today with representatives from the Attorney General’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office to decide what step to take next.

No one appeared to be home Monday afternoon at the tan clapboard house at 113 Broad St. where Cole lived with her 32-year-old mother, Libby St. Pierre, and Gamache.

Gamache was released Saturday on $1,750 bail from Androscoggin County Jail, where he had been held after being arrested over the weekend on a warrant unrelated to Cole’s death.

McCausland said Auburn police and ambulance personnel answered a 911 call for an unresponsive child at the Broad Street home at about 8 p.m. Thursday.

Baby Cole was taken to a Lewiston hospital, but was later transferred to the Portland hospital where she was put on life support.
