OTTAWA (AP) – Zdeno Chara scored the game-winner against his former team to help the Boston Bruins snap a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.

Patrice Bergeron and Petr Kalus also scored for Boston while Joey MacDonald stopped 32 shots for his third win of the year.

Dany Heatley and Mike Fisher scored for Ottawa. Ray Emery had 14 saves.

Ottawa opened the scoring in the first minute as Heatley scored his 46th goal of the season for his 200th career point as a Senator.

The Bruins tied the game at 7:40 as Bergeron scored on a two-man advantage with Boston’s first goal in four road games.

Fisher put Ottawa back ahead at 1:49 of the second with a power-play goal, his 20th of the season.

Boston regained the lead, scoring two goals 47 seconds apart.

Kalus scored his first of the season as he took advantage of an Ottawa turnover before Chara beat Emery with a point shot to give Boston a 3-2 lead.

The Senators lost forward Patrick Eaves late in the second after it appeared he took a shot off the ankle.

Lawrence Nycholat, a defenseman acquired at the trade deadline, played his first game as a Senator as Wade Redden had the night off with what Ottawa described as a lower-body injury.

Canadiens 6, Rangers 4

MONTREAL – Alex Kovalev got his second straight two-goal game as Montreal scored five unanswered goals in the second period in the Canadiens’ 6-4 win over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.

Steve Begin, Michael Ryder and Tomas Plekanec also scored in the second for Montreal, which trailed 2-0 after the first. Saku Koivu added four assists.

Penguins 4, Capitals 3

WASHINGTON – Ryan Whitney scored two second-period goals to lead Pittsburgh past the Washington Capitals 4-3 on Tuesday, and put the Penguins in the playoffs for the first time since 2001.

Whitney scored the second and fourth Penguins goals, but it was Sidney Crosby’s second-period goal past a stickless Olaf Kolzig that was the most memorable.
