CHANDLER, Ariz. – Billy Johnson had four hits and scored a pair of runs to lead Wisconsin-Whitewater to an 8-4 triumph over Southern Maine.

Huskies (4-2) led 1-0 on Ryan Bourque’s RBI double. Bourque became the 10th player in school history to hit three doubles in the same game. UWW (6-3) built a 3-1 advantage before putting the game away by scoring with four runs with the help of two USM errors in the sixth inning.

Losing pitcher Collin Henry and Max Arsenault added a pair of RBI singles in the ninth.

Thomas 11, Colby 3

PHOENIX – Thomas College scored three times in both the first and third innings, and Taylor Helberg limited Colby to three runs as the Terriers routed the White Mules 11-3 in the Phoenix Invitational.

Tom Salemy led Colby (1-5) with three hits and a pair of RBIs. Samuel Shain hit a triple for Thomas (2-4).

Softball

USM drops pair

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Southern Maine dropped a pair of games Tuesday in the Gene Cusic Softball Classic. Colby nipped the Huskies 3-2 in the opener, before getting routed by DePauw, 8-0.

Colby overcame a 2-1 deficit by scoring twice in the fourth inning. Winning pitcher Alyssa Crowell hit an RBI single to tie the game before Christine Gillespie received a bases-loaded walk from losing pitcher Kristina Grondin that scored the game-winner.

The Huskies threatened in the seventh when Magan Blais of Sabattus laced a two-out triple down the left-field line, but the next hitter lined out for the final out.

In the nightcap, USM (4-6) was limited to one hit.
