Board: Minot School Committee

Met: Tuesday night

School funding

Issue: The amount of state aid to education that the Minot school department will receive for the 2007/2008 school year.

The scoop: On March 3, town meeting voters approved a school budget that assumed $2,008,000 in state aid would be forthcoming. According to Assistant Superintendent Marc Gendron, the latest official figures from Augusta show that, under Gov. Baldacci’s proposed budget, Minot will receive $2,144,000. The proposed budget, as modified by legislators, would reduce the amount to $2,126,000. Thus, under either scenario, the school budget that passed at town meeting will receive sufficient state support.

Athletic policy

Issue: The school committee gave final approval to a revised sportsmanship policy.

The scoop: The policy, which establishes rules for eligibility to play on sport teams and rules for conduct by sports participants, is based on the Sports Done Right model, which integrates athletic competition into the overall development of the young students.
