Issue: Selectmen asked Town Manager Charles Noonan to write letters to the state about road maintenance.

The scoop: The letters will request the Maine Department of Transportation to repair deteriorating asphalt along the railroad crossing on Sawyer Road. MDOT agents had told selectmen that the town would be reimbursed if it provided the repair, but selectmen maintained that it’s the responsibility of the state. Selectmen also want the Maine Emergency Management Agency to provide the reimbursement for spring and winter damage that it promised in 2006.

Upcoming fee changes

The scoop: Planning Board members submitted a list of additional fees for applications. Selectmen will review the fees and schedule a public hearing in the next few months.

Front-end loader quest

Issue: Town employees have been test-driving front-end loaders as they get ready to purchase a new one for the town.

The scoop: Townspeople approved a lease purchase of about $100,000 over five years, as well as a trade-in sale of the town’s current front-end loader.

Up next: Selectmen should have a recommendation by the next scheduled meeting.

Fire permits

The scoop: Greene fire Chief Joe Brown approached selectmen with the idea of making fire permits available at the town hall. Right now, permits are issued only on Saturdays from the fire department.
