LEWISTON – Margaret Park, an adviser at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College, was honored recently as one of the 2006 recipients of the College for ME-Androscoggin’s Student Advocate Award.

The award was presented at an annual awards luncheon in December at Bates College. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate tireless advocacy on behalf of students. Park has academically counseled hundreds of students as a student adviser at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College for the past 10 years.

“Margaret is a tireless advocate for our students and is respected for this by our faculty,” said Betty Robinson, associate professor of leadership and organizational studies, who nominated Park for the award.

College for Me-Androscoggin is a countywide collaborative effort in which USM/L-A is a core partner. It unites business, education, community and government partners who seek to ensure the quality of life in the community by raising educational attainment in Androscoggin County, and has set as its ambitious goal doubling the number of residents in the county who hold a college degree by 2015.
