NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Center fielder Dustin Spiller drove in three runs on three hits as unbeaten St. Joseph’s opened up an 8-0 lead after three innings and cruised to an 11-4 baseball victory over UMass-Dartmouth.

Shortstop Luke Enman and Spiller got the Monks (11-0) rolling with RBI hits in the first. Ben Grant-Roy followed with a double that drove in a pair of runs in support of starter Ben Cutter (2-0). Cutter went six innings, allowing four hits and one run.

Reid Burns had two hits and an RBI for the Corsairs (3-8). Brian Vanesse (0-3) was tagged with the loss.

Tufts 4, Bates 2

MEDFORD, Mass. – Kevin Casey had three hits and drove in all four Jumbo runs as Tufts defeated Bates 4-2 in baseball Friday.

Casey ripped an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1 in the first and added a two-run double in the fourth to give the Jumbos (8-4) the lead for good. He capped his day with an RBI single in the sixth.

Adam Telian (2-0) fanned 11 Bobcats over six innings. Brian Casey pitched the ninth to pick up the save.

The Bobcats (1-6) were led by Brian Buckley, who cracked a solo home run in the eighth. The Bobcats rapped out nine hits, but stranded 11 runners.

Ben Shwartz (0-2) suffered the loss.

MIT 7-4, Colby 6-6

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Michael Cuqua, Craig Cooper and John LaMantia had two hits each as Colby overcame a 4-0 deficit in the second game to salvage a doubleheader split with MIT on Friday. MIT won the opener 7-6, while Colby taking the nightcap 6-4.

LaMantia knocked a two-run double to highlight a four-run fifth for the Mules (2-7) in the second game. Matt Moore went the first six innings to pick up the win.

Trinity 15, Bowdoin 8

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sean Killeen and Matt Stafford both homered in a 21-hit attack as Trinity pounded out a 15-8 victory over Bowdoin in men’s baseball Friday.

Chandler Barnard tossed seven innings to earn the win for the Bantams (13-1).

Joe Berte and Jon Koperniak had home runs for the Polar Bears (5-6). Carter Butland took the loss.

Softball

Tufts 8, Bates 1

MEDFORD, Mass. – Erica Bailey tossed a three-hitter and struck out eight to lead Tufts to an 8-1 victory over Bates in a softball game Friday.

Stacia Saniuk drove in the lone Bobcats run in the first inning with an RBI single. Bailey (4-1) retired 11 batters in a row at one point and never allowed another runner past second base after the first.

The Jumbos (9-4) received home runs from Maya Ripecky and Casey Sullivan in a three-run sixth inning off Bates’ starter Kristin Masino (1-3).

Bates falls to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Trinity 3, Bowdoin 1

HARTFORD, Conn. – Beth Gostanian belted a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Trinity a 3-1 triumph over Bowdoin.

The Polar Bears (14-4) scratched out a 1-0 lead on a fielder’s choice, but the Bantams (9-1) tied the game on freshman Jessica Tait’s third-inning homer.

Sara Dougherty went the distance to collect the win. Karen Reni suffered the loss for the Polar Bears.
