FARMINGTON – Mabel N. LaFreniere, 96, formerly of Livermore Falls, died Wednesday, March 28, at Sandy River Nursing Home, where she had resided for four years.
She was born in Leeds on July 24, 1910, the daughter of Victor L. and Edith (Pattie) Safford. She was a graduate of Leavitt Institute and Bliss Business College.
On Dec. 31, 1933, she married Joseph R. LaFreniere in Portsmouth, N.H. He passed away on March 30, 1984.
She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for Lewiston Hardware and also for United Hardware Co. in California, retiring in 1972. She and her husband were owners of Sunny Dairy and Romie’s Ice Cream in Jay.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet Wright of Wilton, Denise Hunter of Torrance, Calif., and Becky Evans of Yucca Valley, Calif.; two sons, Morrill “Sonny” LaFreniere and his wife, Alice, of Livermore, and Paul LaFreniere and his wife, Maxine, of Livermore Falls; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Rita Masso; a stepson, Raymond LaFreniere; three sisters, Virginia Pulsifer, Maude Pulsifer and Ethel Pulsifer; a brother, Leon Safford; and two sons-in-law, Harold A. Wright in 1998 and Frank Hunter in 1978.
