AUGUSTA – Katherine A. Heath Norton, 83, of Chesterville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Maine General Medical Center in the early hours of April 7.
She was born Oct. 22, 1923, in New Vineyard, the daughter of Everett Heath and Anna Brackett Heath.
She attended New Vineyard schools and as a young woman, worked as a nanny on Long Island, N.Y.
She married Vinton Norton on July 6, 1945, in West Farmington.
She was employed at Foster Manufacturing, Livermore Shoe, Farmington Shoe and retired from GH Bass in 1985.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she welcomed everyone into her home with open arms. She took pride in her home cooking, and her warm and caring spirit was baked into every cookie, pie, doughnut and meal that graced her table.
Her deepest value was “to love everyone for who they are as a person,” and this is what she did throughout her life.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Patricia Storer of Windham; her son, Terry Norton and his wife, Jeanne, of Chesterville; a stepson, Russell Norton and his wife, Beverly, of Auburn; nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Paul Heath of New Vineyard; sisters, Marjorie Howard of New Vineyard and Norma Nile of Anson.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Vinton Norton on Jan. 6, 2006; a brother, Colon and sisters Virginia, Elaine and Joyce.
