LEWISTON – John “Jack” Collins, 81, of 224 Pond Road, Lewiston, died Sunday, April 8, at his home, following a long illness.
Born in Lewiston on Feb. 24, 1926, he was the son of John H. and Margaret Cronin Collins. Educated in local schools, he served with the U.S. Army in World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart due to injuries received in combat in the European Theater. Upon recovering from his wounds, he went to work as a postal clerk in the Lewiston Post Office, retiring in the early 1980’s.
On June 21, 1947, he was married to the former Dorothy Pelletier in St. Patrick’s Church. A member of St. Patrick’s Parish, he also belonged to the Androscoggin County Fish and Game Association, the National Rifle Association, the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, and was an inactive fourth degree Knight of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of Lewiston; a daughter, Kathryn Bolduc of Auburn; two grandchildren, Amanda Bolduc and Dustin Mailloux; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Daniel Collins; and a sister, Elinor Roy.
