HYANNIS, Mass. – Lucie Peterson, 83, of Marstons Mills, Mass., passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Saturday, April 7, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Mass.

Born in Riga, Latvia, on Nov. 21, 1923, daughter of Julius and Olga Gemst, Lucie and her beloved husband of 63 years, Paul Peterson, arrived in the U.S. from Latvia in 1947.

She devoted most of her life to being a homemaker. While living in Bellingham, Mass., she was a member of the Woonsocket Unitarian Universalist Church, where she volunteered in many capacities, including president of the Women’s Association. She was also an active member of the local school P.T.A. and community groups.

Moving to Eastham, Mass. in 1973, she and her husband owned and operated the Aspinet Court Motel and Cottage Colony for eight years. She served as an active member of the Eastham Chamber of Commerce.

She enjoyed reading, quilting and preparing authentic Latvian meals. She and her husband moved to Marstons Mills in 1984.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; children, Eriks and his wife, Nancy Petersons, of Mechanic Falls, Paul and his wife, Megan Peterson, of Blackstone, Mass., daughter, Kristina Moniz of Auburn, and Robert of Marstons Mills, Mass.; five grandchildren, Matthew and his wife, Sarah, of Durham, N.H., Kurtis and Gerrit Petersons, of Mechanic Falls, and Emily and Henry Moniz, of Auburn.

She was predeceased by their son, John Petersons in 1972.
