Day postponed
GREENE – Stewardship Day at Hooper Pond, originally scheduled for Friday, April 13, has been postponed to Friday, May 11, due to inclement weather. This is a cooperative event of the Androscoggin Land Trust, Greene Conservation Commission and Leavitt Area High School sophomores. On May 11, the students will arrive at Hooper Pond’s boat launch/picnic area at 9:45 a.m. and leave at 1:15 p.m., as originally planned.
OES meeting
AUBURN – Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.
The chapter will honor Ellen Broas, deputy grand matron of District 4, and introduce a travel emblem.
The meeting will be preceded by a potluck supper at 6:15 p.m. All Eastern Star members are welcome.
Lodge to meet
AUBURN – Ashlar Lodge 105, AF and AM, will hold its April communication on Monday evening, April 16, at the Auburn Masonic Temple, 1021 Turner St. All Masons are welcomed to the business meeting that will start at 7:30 p.m. Those who need a ride or more information should contact Steve Peterson at 777-1728.
Sodality speaker
LEWISTON – The Ladies of St. Ann Sodality at the Holy Family Parish will hold a general meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the rectory meeting rooms. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. Kenneth M. Dakin of San Antonio, Texas. Refreshments will be served. Members and guests are invited.
VFW meeting
LISBON – Raymond J. Lavigne Post 9459, VFW, and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at the post home, Route 196. All members are encouraged to attend, and new members are welcome. Agenda items will include second nominations and elections, adopting a unit in harm’s way and continuing sending packages to the troops.
Award winner
LISBON – The United States Achievement Academy has announced that Jessica Campbell of Lisbon has been recognized for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Student Award winner.
Campbell, who attends P.W. Sugg Middle School, will appear in the academy’s official yearbook which is published nationally.
“Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in America’s history. Certainly, United States Achievement Academy winners should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedication to excellence and achievement,” said Dr. George Stevens, founder of the academy.
Campbell is the daughter of David and Lisa Campbell of Lisbon.
Bridge results
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on April 9 were: first, Pete Cummings and Dick Allen; second, Alberta Turner and Helen Little; third, Martine Begert and Mary Leahey; fourth, Linda Leotsakos and Nancy Lindgren; third in B, Lucille Bilodeau and Cynthia Bonsey; one/two tie in C, Marlene and Conrad Violette with Beverly Dolan and Judy Abromson.
Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 783-1734 for more information. There will be no game on Monday, April 16, Patriots’ Day.
