WILTON – Bethany Adkins from the Beginning With Habitat Program will present information and maps on the town’s wetlands areas at the Comprehensive Plan Committee meeting set for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the town office.

The Beginning With Habitat Program, a state agency under the Department of Environmental Protection, identifies critical habitat areas and provides maps of the wetlands, said Paul Montague, code enforcement officer. This information needs to be incorporated in the town’s comprehensive plan and this program has a better digital representation of these areas, he said.

The committee will also work on preparations for the first of several public meetings to discuss the future of Wilton. A meeting is planned for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Academy Hill School cafeteria.

“We’re looking for public input on an array of topics. There are 11 topic areas that the state requires that we address, including public facilities, resource areas and outdoor recreation,” Montague said. “We’re looking for people to make comments and voice concerns as to where they hope the town will be in 20 years.”

Last year, a small committee looked at the needs and the plan from 1995 and decided it needed a full rewrite. This committee started working in January on what will be a two-to-three-year process. The comprehensive plan defines zoning and subdivision rules, he said.

The committee has also put in a request for $2,000 in the town’s proposed budget for the coming year. The funds will be used for administration and printing of town maps and materials and what the committee will need to prepare for the revision of the plan, he said.
