LEWISTON – Hilaire R. St. Pierre, 87, of 74 Lake Auburn Ave., Auburn, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 10, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Brunswick on Feb. 7, 1920, the son of Hilaire and Elizabeth M. (Fournier) St. Pierre, and he had been a resident of this community since 1982.

He was educated in Brunswick schools. He married the former Berce J. Lavigne on Oct. 28, 1982, who died on July 20, 2000.

He was employed as a forming press operator for more than 33 years at Brunswick Manufacturing Co. He later was employed at Grumbacher, until his retirement in 1987.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, having been a translator in Belgium. He was a member of the Franco American War Veterans and a parishioner of Holy Family Church. Mr. St. Pierre enjoyed woodworking, taking road trips and watching Mass on EWTN.

He was a very loving father and grandfather, taking in his wife’s children and grandchildren. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone, anytime.

He is survived by one son, Alain St. Pierre of Texas; one stepson, Robert R. Maheux Jr. of Auburn; one daughter, Alaina St. Pierre of Florida; two stepdaughters, Louise L. Pelletier of Auburn, and Susan P. Clayton and her husband, Willie, of Lewiston; one sister, Leona Gordon of Brunswick; five grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren; a special niece, Claire Koski and her husband, Jake, of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Caron and Violette St. Pierre; and by two brothers, Donald and Gerald St. Pierre.
