One of the cars on the 11:15 o’clock freight was broken into Saturday night somewhere between Portland and Danville Junction, and the thief or thieves escaped with a small amount of booty. The trainmen saw a man jump from one of the cars when the train was just pulling out of Lewiston Junction. When the train stopped at Auburn, it was found that the seal had been broken, and tobacco together with canned shrimps and tomatoes had been stolen. It is thought that it was the work of vagrants who not only stole a ride but got something to eat and smoke as well.

WASHINGTON – Rep. Zelenko (D-N.Y.) today proposed federal income tax cuts for older persons by allowing deductions for “depletion of human resources” after age 44. Zelenko said he was introducing a bill tomorrow which would allow a person to deduct 1 per cent of his earned income for the taxable year for each year the taxpayer is above age 44. A taxpayer at age 64, for instance, could deduct 20 percent of his year’s income as a “depletion of human resources.”

PROVINCETOWN, Mass. – After a little urging from his owner, Andre the Seal waddled out of his cage and dived into the frigid ocean Tuesday to begin his annual swim up the New England coast to his Maine home.
About 50 camera-clicking bystanders began cheering after Andre’s owner, Harry A. Goodridge, coaxed his acrobatic seal out of the cage and into the cold water for the start of a 230-mile journey.
Andre has lived for 21 years with Goodridge, who adopted him when he was a pup abandoned by his mother. The seal spends his summers in Rockport, Maine, where he puts on daily shows for tourists, and goes south to an aquarium for the winter.
