Recently, I met a woman circulating a petition requesting impeachment of President George Bush; a grandmother protecting the future of her grandchildren. Even more recently, I received a call telling me about the Web site maineimpeach.org

Obviously, impeaching is an idea whose time has come.

“Military attorneys claim that a White House-backed bill would gut the Geneva Conventions and save alleged torturers from prosecution,” is from “Bush’s Get Out of Jail Card,” by Mark Benjamin, published on salon.com/news. That doesn’t mean we can’t impeach him.

Because his vehicle was commander-in-chief, he hasn’t been charged with a single homicide. If he’d used a car to run over 160,000 men, women and children, his recklessness, negligence and flouting the law would have him serving a life sentence.

A thought to those considering signing an impeachment petition – if your grandchildren ask you someday what you did during the dark days, you’ll want to say you impeached him.
