Homecoming meet

WEST PARIS – A homecoming meeting will be held Monday, April 23, at the the Historical Hall. A potluck supper will be held at 6 p.m. with a small business meeting at 7. Retirees to meet

FRYEBURG – Members and guests of the Oxford County Education Association – Retired will meet at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, at the Fryeburg Catholic Church for a business meeting, dinner and a program featuring a local author.

The fundraiser will be a cookie walk. Reservations for the dinner can be made by anyone who has retired from employment by a school district in Oxford County. Call Blanche Sanborn at 935-2473.

Democrats’ day

AUGUSTA – The Oxford County Democrats and Friends are planning a day at the State House on Thursday, April 26, to observe government in action and visit Democratic incumbents, Sen. Bruce Bryant, Rep. Terry Hayes, Rep. John Patrick, Rep. Larry Sirois and Rep. Tim Carter.

Gov. John E. Baldacci has scheduled a special visit with the group in his office. Field trip organizer Cathy Newell is working with the office of Speaker Glenn Cummings to organize meetings with key legislators and special briefings on issues of interest. House and Senate sessions and committee hearings will round out the day.

Movie night

SUMNER – Pastor Nancy Miaoulis and Sunday School Superintendent Lisa Zak will hold a family movie night from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in the vestry of the Congregational Church of East Sumner, UCC. The movie will be “Dreamer,” where Dakota Fanning plays a girl who is determined to save a race horse with her family’s help.

Program rescheduled

OTISFIELD – The Otisfield Historical Society has rescheduled its program, snowed out on April 12, to Thursday, April 26. The meeting will be held at the Otisfield Town Office at 7 p.m.

Following election of officers and a brief business meeting, the program will be turned over to Maine storyteller John McDonald, now an Otisfield resident, who will entertain with his reflections on the people, places and things of Maine.

Lasagna supper

HARRISON – The children and youth of Bolsters’ Mills United Methodist Church will host a lasagna supper Saturday, April 21. The menu will include meat and meatless lasagna as well as vegetable lasagna, salad, garlic bread, beverage and dessert. Seatings will be at 5 and 6 p.m. The price is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

The proceeds will go to the Mechuwana Methodist Camp scholarship fund. The children and youth hope to raise enough money to help 11 children, youth and people with special needs attend the camp in Winthrop this summer. For reservations call the Merrills at 743-7002 and leave a message.

Shopping relay

NORWAY – A shopping relay will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the Norway Legion Hall. Proceeds will benefit Oxford Hills Relay For Life. There will be many local home-based businesses participating. Lunch will be available and there will be door prizes.

TU meeting

BETHEL – The Mollyockett Chapter of Trout Unlimited will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Gould Academy’s Ordway Hall.

Bill Hanson and Kyle Murphy of FPL will present a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the brook trout, salmon and smallmouth bass work they have done on the Rapid River. They will also discuss the smallmouth bass work they are assisting Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife biologist Dave Boucher with. Boucher will take part in the discussion.

Shelby Rousseau of Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust and the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsman’s Association will show the “Live the Legend” video. The meeting is open to everyone and there is no charge.

Knowledge series

BETHEL – The Mahoosic Land Trust will offer the fourth and final program of its Local Knowledge Series for the season in Trustees’ Auditorium, McLaughlin Science Center on the Gould Academy campus at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18. Christopher Mattrick will speak on invasive plants.
