LIVERMORE – Livermore Elementary School educator Janet Eastman was awarded a $1,000 Target Field Trip Grant, designed to help bring learning to life for students.

Eastman, a grade-three teacher, was selected from more than 16,000 applicants from around the country. She plans to use the grant to take 72 students to Fort Western in Augusta on May 3, 4 and 31.

The Target Field Trip Grants Program, which launched in September 2006, distributed 800 grants totaling nearly $800,000 to education professionals throughout the U.S.

Criteria for selection included the description of the field trip and its objectives, the benefits to students, the tie-in to the school curriculum, the number of students who would be impacted and the proposed use of funds.

Funds may be used to cover cost of transportation, entry fees, supplies and equipment and resource materials. Winning field trips must take place during the 2007 calendar school year.

Applications for the 2007-2008 program will be available online at Target.com/teachers beginning Sept. 1.
