The sounds of an oldies tune is heard over the intercom, blasting twangily throughout the halls of Tripp Middle School. Advisees sit, nonplused, trying to determine the singer and song name of the music they are hearing.

The advisors are either like the students, or grinning in that way that plainly says, “I know this one, but I can’t tell you.” A few hesitant guesses, mostly joking, such as “ACDC, or Fergie,” but an Advisor group does win the 5 pound whoopie pie prize every time.

The students themselves aren’t quite sure what the point is. I mean, it is kind of cool that we get a “Music Monday” every week, but how is it really helping us? Is it just so we get a taste of “what music used to be,” instead of the hip-hop and rapping world that surrounds us now. Maybe it’s because a trivia on Monday is a good way to test our minds after the weekend, either way, no one minds.

I even found it interesting that the Tripp band was able to guess the song and artist easily, unlike the usual answer-less silence that my advisor room usually gets filled with. It’s not like we actually play oldies or anything. I guess that in the medley of students combined it band, We have a few oldies music fans. Well, we didn’t win the whoopie pie as a band, and my advisor group hasn’t yet either, but we still have a chance. (Plus, that whoopie pie makes awesome bait!)
