LIVERMORE FALLS – A Livermore Falls man accused of eluding police and criminal speed faces those charges and more once police catch up to him, police Lt. Thomas Gould said.

Officer Joe Sage stopped a vehicle on Park Street near the fire station late Tuesday night after recognizing the driver as someone who had a warrant out for his arrest from Androscoggin County.

Sage was attempting to arrest Joshua Souther, 29, on the warrant charge when the vehicle accelerated and took off heading south on the road, also known as Route 133, toward Pike’s Corner Oasis, Gould said.

Sage pursued the vehicle, which was traveling at a speed of more than 30 miles over the posted limit, he said.

Souther’s vehicle turned up a dirt road near 580 Park St. where Sage broke off the chase due to muddy road conditions of the road and because he knew who was driving, Gould said.

Souther was driving a four-wheel-drive vehicle and was able to make it up the road, he added.

Police have pending charges against Souther of refusing to submit to arrest, driving to endanger, criminal speed and eluding an officer, the lieutenant said.
